Bombay Talkies is a 2013 Indian anthology film comprising sixteen short films, directed by seventeen acclaimed filmmakers. The films are connected only by the theme of cinema and Mumbai as a common protagonist. This anthology film has given birth to the idea of exploring lives and incidents in Mumbai through one lens. Bombay Talkies is an eye-opener for those who know Bombay as just another city and yet, much more than that for those who live here. Our vision was to provoke thought about why we think the way we do about certain people or places because often times our provinciality gets in the way of our understanding and appreciation of life that's right before us. Our hope is that Bombay Talkies will open the eyes, the ears and the hearts of those who live here. Filmography of filmmakers participating in Bombay Talkies 2013 The first draft of the script for Mumbai Talkies was written by director Abhijit Guha. The second draft happened due to some disagreements among the directors. The film was presented to eight directors who were chosen out of over 100 applicants for their potential to make a piece of cinema whose subject concerned Bombay or Mumbai, or which referred to its life or culture. Here are some notes taken during preparation for Mumbai Talkies: The story was not told by one person but by many people through their eyes. Or from the eyes of the other people in the movie, which makes it a visual experience. The film shows Bombay as a city but also as a country, where city and country meet. In the end, one should understand Bombay like an artist understands his canvas, through his eyes. The idea was to talk about how easy it is for people to acquire the same thoughts and feelings about something; how easy it is for someone to make up his own truth; how easy it is to be fooled by others; what happens when you think you know something but you actually don't; and what happens when people love each other. The first person narrative style was chosen as it allows each filmmaker to be free without any censorship, so they can choose how much of the truth they want to tell and how loose they want to be with it. This means that some things might not appear on screen and some people might not appear on the screen, but their lives and feelings will still affect us. Bombay Talkies is a tribute to Bombay, a city we all know and love, yet has secrets hidden within its skin which we'll only discover through the movies we make here. Bombay Talkies is an initiative by ScreenBangla Film Development Corporation, a Bengali news channel under the banner of R-TV Media Private Limited. The music is composed by Shantanu Moitra. The lyrics have been written by Swanand Kirkire, Shalmali Kholgade, Anvita Dutt (the director of "Bombay Talkies"), Bishakh Jyoti, Prateek Kuhad, Rakesh Ranjan Mishra and Sayan Chowdhury. The song "Meri Taraf Hai" is not in the soundtrack album because the makers found it unfit for the film. Aakash Gandhi of "The Times of India" gave it 4 out of 5 stars and wrote that the film is "a rousing success". 3cfa1e7782019
